How to sell jewellery on Kaspi: expert opinion, hallmark, marking and pricing

How to sell jewellery on Kaspi: expert opinion, hallmark, marking and pricing

You can't list rings and earrings on Kaspi.kz without permission: «Украшения» (Jewellery) is a closed category. On top of the supply contract, invoice and payment proof, you'll need a paper from the assay office, and not one per batch but one per item. The law adds its own layer: jewellery can't be sold in Kazakhstan without an assay hallmark and a maker's mark, and from December 1, 2026 it becomes subject to mandatory marking. The commission is also higher than usual, 13.5% excluding VAT, and costume jewellery goes at the same rate as gold. Let's go through the documents, the law, the product card and the price calculation.

In short

  • You can't list anything in «Украшения» without permission. Your account shows the form itself as soon as you add the first item.
  • Kaspi wants an assay office opinion for every item; one per batch won't be accepted.
  • By law, jewellery is sold only with an assay hallmark and a maker's mark.
  • From December 1, 2026, jewellery made of precious metals joins the mandatory marking list.
  • The commission in all «Украшения» subcategories, costume jewellery included, is 13.5% excluding VAT and 15.5% including VAT.

Step 1. Permission for the «Украшения» category

Jewellery has its own line in Kaspi's list of restricted categories. When you add an item, your account shows a form, and you attach (q2224, updated Oct 5, 2026):

  1. a supply contract with your supplier or a contract with the manufacturer;
  2. an expert opinion from the assay office for each item, confirming that the item has been examined;
  3. a goods release invoice;
  4. documents confirming payment.

Documents can be requested later too, even after approval. Kaspi may disconnect a store for forgery, and each application is decided individually, without a template.

Why permission gets refused

Kaspi names three reasons (q4810, updated Mar 16, 2026): an incomplete package, rule violations, or fewer than 10 fulfilled orders in a month. With jewellery, an «incomplete» package is usually down to a small thing: someone forgot to get an opinion for one or two models in the range.

The invoice is made out to your LLP, but the store is registered to you as a sole proprietor? Then you'll need a contract between them, VAT invoices, a power of attorney or a certified copy (q5213, updated Aug 7, 2026).

What about costume jewellery

In the tariffs, costume jewellery sits inside the «Украшения» section: costume earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and brooches are listed alongside gold ones. The Kaspi Guide gives one document list for jewellery and doesn't single out costume pieces. Which papers you'll be asked for on costume jewellery without precious metals only becomes clear in the application form in your account. Prepare the contract, invoice and payment proof in advance, and ask Kaspi support about the expert opinion before you buy stock, not after.

Step 2. Examination, fineness and hallmark: what the law says

Where does the assay office in Kaspi's requirements come from? From the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On precious metals and precious stones» (law, adilet). A seller doesn't need to read all of it; four places are enough.

  • Article 12, paragraph 3: you pay for the examination, and the opinion is issued within five working days of your request.
  • Article 12, paragraph 4: everything made or sold in Kazakhstan must be assayed and hallmarked. Exceptions are set by the authorised body.
  • Article 13: no assay hallmark or maker's mark means no sale. A maker's mark is the producer's personal mark, registered with an authorised organisation.
  • Also Article 13: if a stone is synthetic, the label must say that it isn't precious.

The five-working-day rule leads to simple arithmetic. If a batch arrives on Monday, don't put it on display before the following Monday. And if you have forty models, multiply both the queue and the paperwork.

Which items aren't hallmarked

The exceptions are listed in Order No. 454 of the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of June 20, 2023 (order, adilet). It has nine points, but three matter to a jewellery seller:

Exception What it means for the seller
Alloy below 375 fineness for gold, 800 for silver, 500 for palladium, 900 for platinum Such items don't go through mandatory assaying and hallmarking
Silver of 800 fineness and above, made in Kazakhstan for sale in Kazakhstan, with a maker's mark Hallmarking is optional if the item has a maker's mark
Unfinished or unassembled items without a full set of parts Not hallmarked, but they aren't sold as finished jewellery either

Note: Kaspi doesn't care whether an item may legally go without a hallmark. The Guide says «an opinion for every item» with no caveats.

Step 3. Marking from December 1, 2026

Open Kazakhstan's list of goods subject to marking and find codes 7113 11 000 0 and 7113 19 000 0. That's jewellery and its parts made of silver and other precious metals. Next to them is 7114 (goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares), plus watch cases and bracelets of precious metals, 9111 10 000 0 and 9113 10 100 0. Every one of these lines has the same date: December 1, 2026 (list of goods subject to marking, adilet).

At the time of publication that date is 34 days away. It's better to sort out the gold and silver in your warehouse now, before New Year orders start. How marking works in categories where it already applies is covered in our article on product marking for Kaspi.

Costume jewellery without precious metals isn't covered by these codes.

Step 4. The jewellery product card

A buyer on Kaspi can't hold the piece in their hands, so the card does the job of a shop window. What on it must match the item and the documents:

  • metal and fineness, as in the expert opinion and on the hallmark;
  • the inset, natural or synthetic. If it's synthetic, say so; the law requires it;
  • weight and ring size, since being half a size off almost always ends in a return;
  • photos showing the hallmark or fineness, if the shoot allows.

Rings have their own headache: size. The buyer measures their finger with a thread at home, gets it wrong, and the ring comes back. A simple fix helps: explain in the description how to measure the finger and give the inner diameter in millimetres next to the size. You'll get fewer chat questions and fewer size returns.

Main card attributes can't be changed once the card is more than a month old (q3554, updated Feb 23, 2026). Better to catch a mistake in fineness or metal right away. Sizes of one ring can be merged into one card if they share the brand, category and main attributes (q5146, updated Jul 23, 2026).

Photo requirements are collected in our article on product photos for Kaspi, and the card creation process in our article on how to create a product card on Kaspi.

Step 5. Shipping: seal, waybill and claims

Jewellery is small and expensive, so the issue isn't weight but safety. Kaspi Delivery is responsible for the goods from the moment you hand them over at a drop-off point (q1348, updated Nov 6, 2023). You can file a claim with Kaspi Delivery if (q2991, updated Jul 14, 2026):

  • the goods were damaged in transit;
  • the customer hasn't received the order 7 days after the planned delivery date;
  • the status of a buyer's return hasn't changed in your account for 7 days;
  • the contents of a returned order don't match the waybill;
  • the seal was broken in transit.

Claims within the city must be filed within 10 calendar days, and within Kazakhstan within 45. If an order is lost, the period runs from the planned date of delivery to the buyer or of return to the drop-off point. For jewellery this suggests two simple habits. First, seal the box or bag so a broken seal is visible at once. Second, record a photo or video of yourself packing the item, with the tag and order number. If a different ring comes back in a return, proving the swap will be hard without such a record. We covered how to pack orders in detail in our article on packaging for Kaspi Delivery.

Returns travel the same way. Sometimes a buyer files a return and then doesn't hand the earrings to the courier; in that case the money stays with you. They can reschedule twice, up to 5 days in total (q4309, updated Nov 3, 2025).

Commission and the minimum price

The «Украшения» rate in the 2026 tariffs is 13.5% excluding VAT and 15.5% including VAT. Ring, chain, piercing, prayer beads or a costume brooch, it makes no difference (Tariffs 2026, PDF). For comparison, most categories, such as children's products and furniture, have a rate of 10.9% excluding VAT. If an order is cancelled, the commission is refunded (q1344, updated Jan 6, 2026).

A hypothetical example, not a client case. Take 925 silver earrings: purchase cost 8,000 ₸, case and packaging 300 ₸, shipped with Kaspi Delivery within the city. The law doesn't say how much the examination costs, only that it's paid. So 1,500 ₸ per item here is our assumption; check your own price with the assay office. An order of 10,000 ₸ or more weighing up to 5 kg costs 1,099 ₸ excluding VAT, which is 1,275 ₸ with 16% VAT (q2288, updated Jun 16, 2026).

Item At a price of 18,000 ₸
Commission 15.5% incl. VAT 2,790 ₸
Kaspi Delivery within the city incl. VAT 1,275 ₸
Case and packaging 300 ₸
Examination (assumption) 1,500 ₸
Purchase cost 8,000 ₸
Left from the sale 4,135 ₸

Minimum price = (Purchase cost + Examination + Delivery + Packaging) ÷ (1 − Commission incl. VAT)

(8,000 + 1,500 + 1,275 + 300) ÷ 0.845 ≈ 13,107 ₸. That's well above the 10,000 ₸ threshold, so the delivery tariff stays the same. Below 13,107 ₸ these earrings lose money.

Now costume jewellery: earrings at 2,900 ₸, purchase cost 1,000 ₸, packaging 150 ₸. Kaspi takes 450 ₸ in commission, and delivery in the 1,000–3,000 ₸ range costs 149 ₸ excluding VAT (173 ₸ including VAT). You keep 1,127 ₸, and the minimum price is (1,000 + 173 + 150) ÷ 0.845 ≈ 1,566 ₸. On cheap items the higher commission eats a noticeable share, and the 2.6 percentage point gap against the usual rate is felt within the first few hundred orders. Common mistakes when selling jewellery on Kaspi

  1. One opinion for the whole shipment. That won't pass: you need one paper per item.
  2. An item without a maker's mark. Even with a hallmark, an item without a maker's mark can't legally be sold.
  3. A synthetic stone without a note. If the inset isn't precious, the label must say so. The card too.
  4. Forgetting about marking. From December 1, 2026, jewellery made of precious metals must be marked, and stock in the warehouse will have to be accounted for as well.
  5. Calculating at the usual rate. Jewellery commission is 15.5% including VAT, not 12.5%. If you use the familiar rate, your minimum price will come out too low.
  6. An inaccurate ring size. Being half a size off is a common reason for returns in this category. Returns are covered in detail in our article on returns on Kaspi for sellers.
