Food is sold through the regular Kaspi.kz Magazin (the marketplace); Kaspi's list of restricted categories has no separate permission for the «Продукты питания» (Food) section. The commission here is lower than in most categories: 6.4% excluding VAT, or 7.3% including VAT. The main risks in food are different: a cheap basket where delivery eats the margin, a shelf life that has to survive the trip to a district center, and a label that must comply with TR CU 022/2011 (the Eurasian Customs Union technical regulation on food labelling). Vitamins and dietary supplements are a separate story: they need Kaspi's permission and, from September 1, 2026, marking as well.
In short
- In the 2026 tariffs, the whole «Продукты питания» (Food) section has a single commission: 6.4% excluding VAT and 7.3% including VAT, with no exceptions inside the section.
- The cheapest order by cost share is 3,000–5,000 ₸: delivery there costs 199 ₸ excluding VAT. On an 8,000 ₸ order it's already 699 ₸.
- Kaspi Delivery to district centers takes 5–6 days on average. Calculate the remaining shelf life from that figure.
- Under TR CU 022/2011, a packaged product's label must show the ingredients, production date, shelf life, storage conditions, manufacturer, nutritional value and the EAC mark.
- From January 1, 2026, all goods are sold with a barcode from the National Product Catalog.
How food differs from other categories on Kaspi
Low commission, low basket
Under the 2026 Kaspi.kz Magazin tariffs, all subcategories of the «Продукты питания» (Food) section cost 6.4% excluding VAT and 7.3% including VAT (Kaspi.kz Magazin tariffs 2026). For comparison, clothing, home appliances and most other sections are 10.9% excluding VAT. Pet food and medicines carry the same rate as food. Vitamins and supplements in the «Аптека» (Pharmacy) section, however, are charged 10.9% excluding VAT and 12.5% including VAT, which is worth keeping in mind if you planned to sell them alongside food. More on this in Kaspi commission for sellers.
But the average basket in food is small. A pack of tea or a jar of honey costs 1,000–3,000 ₸, and on a basket like that delivery is more noticeable than the commission. So the key number here isn't the commission, it's delivery.
Restricted categories
The list of categories that require permission to sell includes children's goods, pharmacy, beauty, pet products, vitamins and supplements, and a few other sections (q2224, updated Oct 5, 2026). There is no separate «Продукты питания» item on this list. The application form appears on its own when you add a product from a restricted category, so if the system showed it, the item has landed in a restricted section.
For vitamins and supplements you need a supply agreement or a contract with the factory, a state registration certificate for the product, an EAC certificate or declaration where the law requires one, plus a waybill and payment documents. If the declaration or certificate is issued to another company, Kaspi will ask you to confirm that you buy from an official supplier or importer: an agreement, waybills, a power of attorney or a certified copy of the document (q5213, updated Aug 7, 2026). On top of the documents, permission requires 10 or more delivered orders a month (q4810, updated Mar 16, 2026).
What an order costs: the math by basket total
Kaspi Delivery tariffs for small orders
From January 1, 2026, Kaspi Delivery for orders up to 10,000 ₸ costs the same within the city and across Kazakhstan: up to 1,000 ₸ — 49 ₸; 1,000 to 3,000 ₸ — 149 ₸; 3,000 to 5,000 ₸ — 199 ₸; 5,000 to 10,000 ₸ — 699 ₸ within the city and 799 ₸ across Kazakhstan. From 10,000 ₸ the cost depends on weight: up to 5 kg — 1,099 ₸ within the city, 5 to 15 kg — 1,349 ₸. All prices exclude VAT; they're charged with VAT and only after the «Выдан» (Delivered) status (q2288, updated Jun 16, 2026).
The math: Kaspi's cost share of an order
Hypothetical example, not a client case. A city order, 7.3% commission including VAT, delivery with 16% VAT, rounded to the tenge.
| Order total | Commission 7.3% | Delivery incl. VAT | Kaspi total | Share of order |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 ₸ | 73 ₸ | 173 ₸ | 246 ₸ | 24.6% |
| 2,500 ₸ | 182 ₸ | 173 ₸ | 355 ₸ | 14.2% |
| 4,500 ₸ | 328 ₸ | 231 ₸ | 559 ₸ | 12.4% |
| 8,000 ₸ | 584 ₸ | 811 ₸ | 1,395 ₸ | 17.4% |
| 12,000 ₸, up to 5 kg | 876 ₸ | 1,275 ₸ | 2,151 ₸ | 17.9% |
Formula: costs = price × 7.3% + delivery tariff × 1.16. Exactly 1,000 ₸ falls into the "1,000 to 3,000 ₸" band, so delivery is 149 ₸ excluding VAT.
What follows from this. The most profitable orders are 3,000 to 5,000 ₸. As soon as the basket goes over 5,000 ₸, delivery jumps from 199 to 699 ₸ excluding VAT, and the cost share rises from 12% to 17%. A 5,200 ₸ set costs you more than the same set at 4,900 ₸, even after the discount. If you put together gift sets, keep the price just under 5,000 ₸ or go straight above 10,000 ₸, where you pay more for delivery but the share falls again as the basket grows.
Items under 1,000 ₸ sold one at a time barely pay off: a quarter of the price goes to Kaspi. It's better to sell them in packs of several.
Your own city delivery
If you have your own couriers, you can opt out of Kaspi Delivery within the city and deliver yourself. The rules: delivery of orders from 5,000 ₸ is always free for the buyer, and for orders under 5,000 ₸ you can charge no more than 995 ₸ (q2278, updated Sep 26, 2025). Charging the buyer anything beyond that is prohibited, with penalties up to disconnection (q3905, updated Apr 7, 2025). For short-shelf-life food, same-day delivery by your own couriers is often more reliable than handing the order over at a drop-off point. A comparison of the options is in Kaspi Delivery for sellers.
Shelf life and the trip to the buyer
How long an order travels
On average, Kaspi Delivery takes 1 day within the city, two to three days to regional capitals and 5–6 days to district centers, counting from handover at the drop-off point to pickup by the buyer (q2291, updated Jul 31, 2024). Add the time from order to handover and a buffer in case the courier misses the buyer.
Algorithm: minimum remaining shelf life
A simple rule for your warehouse:
- Take the longest route you ship to: a district center, 6 days.
- Add a day for handing the order over at the drop-off point.
- Add a buffer for redelivery, for example 2 days.
- Add the time the buyer needs to finish the product without complaints. For tea and grains that's weeks; for sweets, at least a couple of weeks.
- The sum is the minimum remaining shelf life at which the product can be listed for sale across all of Kazakhstan.
Hypothetical example: 6 + 1 + 2 + 14 = 23 calendar days. A batch of cookies with 20 days left before expiry should, by this rule, be pulled from delivery to the districts and sold within the city or offline. For goods with less than a month of shelf life, it makes sense to limit delivery to your own city.
What expired goods can lead to
The Kaspi Magazin contract gives the Magazin the right to suspend the contract or block the cabinet when a seller sells poor-quality goods or goods that don't match the stated characteristics (Kaspi Magazin contract, clause 5.3.13). An expired product is exactly that case, plus a negative review on the product card. Return periods on Kaspi depend on the condition of the goods: for poor-quality goods it's 30 days (q2269, updated Sep 21, 2026).
Label, barcode and marking
What must be on the packaging
Technical regulation TR CU 022/2011 «Пищевая продукция в части её маркировки» (Food products in terms of their labelling) lists what goes on packaged food: the name, ingredients, quantity, production date, shelf life and storage conditions, and for products that spoil after opening, storage conditions after opening as well. Then come the name and location of the manufacturer or importer, directions for use if the product is hard to prepare without them, nutritional value, GMO information and the EAC single circulation mark (TR CU 022/2011, Art. 4). Labels are in Russian and in the state language of the country if its law requires it.
If you import food from China or Korea with a label only in the original language, you need a sticker with this information. Without it, the product doesn't comply with the regulation, and a dispute with a buyer won't go your way. On buying abroad, see goods from China for Kaspi.
A photo of the label on the product card
On a food product card (the single shared listing where all sellers of an item compete), the buyer looks for the ingredients and shelf life. Take a separate close-up shot of the ingredients and nutritional value. Photo tips are in product photos for Kaspi.
A barcode from the National Catalog
From January 1, 2026, sellers in Kazakhstan register goods in the National Product Catalog and sell them with a barcode (q4571, updated Dec 31, 2025). This applies to food too.
Data Matrix marking
As of Oct 25, 2026, ordinary food isn't on the list of goods subject to mandatory marking. Dietary supplements are marked from September 1, 2026, if they were produced from that date and have state registration (Order of the Ministry of Trade and Integration No. 199-НҚ of May 26, 2026). Details on the list and deadlines are in product marking for Kaspi.
Packaging for Kaspi Delivery
Kaspi rejects a damage claim if the goods weren't packed according to the instructions (q2296, updated Nov 5, 2025). For food, four points from the instruction «Как упаковать товар для Kaspi Доставки» (How to pack goods for Kaspi Delivery) matter:
- goods in glass are marked with an «Осторожно! Хрупкое» (Caution! Fragile) sticker;
- handling symbols are used for liquids and goods that must travel in a certain position;
- empty space inside the box is filled with paper, bubble wrap or foam;
- a courier bag for small items up to 1 kg is at least 15×12 cm, a box at least 14×20 cm.
One more tip from the same instruction: film the packing of each order on video with the date and time; it helps in a dispute with a buyer. The full rundown is in packaging goods for Kaspi Delivery.
When food on Kaspi doesn't pay off
- The average basket is under 1,000 ₸ and the product can't be sold as a set.
- The shelf life is short and you have no city delivery of your own.
- Heavy goods over 10,000 ₸: water by the pack, grains by the sack. Within the city, 5–15 kg costs 1,349 ₸ and 15–30 kg 2,299 ₸ excluding VAT, while the markup on grains doesn't grow with weight.
- There are no supplier documents and no proper label on imported goods.
On choosing a niche in general, see what to sell on Kaspi.
Common mistakes food sellers make on Kaspi
- Counting only the commission. On a 1,000 ₸ order, delivery is twice the commission.
- Pricing a set just above 5,000 ₸. Delivery jumps from 199 to 699 ₸ excluding VAT.
- Shipping goods with little shelf life left to the districts. The trip there takes up to 6 days.
- Selling imports without a Russian-language label. That violates TR CU 022/2011.
- Adding vitamins as ordinary food. It's a restricted category with documents and a threshold of 10 orders a month.
- Packing glass without a "Fragile" mark. A breakage claim will be rejected.
- Charging the buyer extra for your own delivery beyond the rules. It's a direct route to disconnection.

How to automate food pricing
Margins in food are thin, and an extra 100 ₸ discount for first place quickly turns into a loss. The SaleScout Kaspi bot checks prices every 20 seconds, keeps you at the top of the product card and never drops below the minimum price you set. When a competitor raises their price or leaves the card, the bot raises your price to just below the next seller. Set the minimum price with delivery already factored in, using the table above. You can try the bot free for 7 days, no card required.
